In the vibrant tapestry of Jamaica's broadcasting landscape, Marlon Samuels emerges as a beacon of creativity and expertise. With a remarkable career spanning over two decades, he has transformed the way stories are told, establishing himself as a respected producer, director, and editor who inspires both his peers and the next generation of media professionals.

 

Marlon Samuel’s journey began with the National Youth Service, where he was assigned to work at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC). At the JBC, he discovered his passion for media and storytelling. His early experiences laid the foundation for his growth, allowing him to cultivate his skills and develop a keen eye for detail.


As he transitioned to Television Jamaica (TVJ), he flourished in his role as an editor, earning accolades for his meticulous work on features, documentaries, and news segments. His contributions were not merely technical; they were transformative. Notably, Marlon played an instrumental role in launching TVJ's midday newscast alongside Presenter Producer Carol Francis. Together, they addressed a critical gap in the news coverage of the time, creating a program that is still a trusted source of information for many Jamaicans.

His talent didn't go unnoticed; Mr. Samuels has garnered prestigious awards from the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) and recognition from the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU), solidifying his reputation as a leading technical editor in the industry. These accolades reflect not just his technical prowess but also his dedication to storytelling that resonates with audiences. After leaving TVJ, he joined the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ), where he currently serves as a Producer and Director. 

 

As the organisation's lone technical director, he brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to his projects, crafting content that informs and captivates viewers. One of his standout works, the environmental documentary 'Protecting Jamaica's Own,' earned him the prestigious Caribbean Media Award for Excellence in Environmental Reporting. This recognition is a testament to his passion for advocating for Jamaica's natural resources and raising awareness about the pressing environmental issues facing the island.


Beyond his impressive professional achievements, Marlon Samuels is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of media talent. He actively mentors young aspiring broadcasters, imparting invaluable knowledge in editing and directing. His guidance helps these newcomers hone their skills and find their voices in the industry.
