Celebrating the Legacy of a Caribbean Visionary in Journalism
Wentworth 'Wenty' Bowen was a notable figure in Caribbean journalism and media, whose work left an indelible mark on the industry. His career in journalism began at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC). There, he transitioned from the newsroom to the current affairs department, producing several impactful programs and earning a reputation as an exceptional film editor.
In the mid-1970s, he worked at the Daily News, where he reported on a diverse range of national and regional issues alongside esteemed colleagues, demonstrating a keen understanding of the socio-political landscape. Mr. Bowen’s passion for photography shone through his creative endeavours, including designing Christmas and greeting cards that showcased Caribbean imagery, reflecting his commitment to local content and cultural representation.

His influence extended to academia, where he served firstly as a part-time lecturer at the Caribbean Institute of Mass Communication, later becoming a full-time instructor at the Creative Production and Training Centre and CARIMAC, teaching vital courses in journalism and media production.
Wenty was also instrumental in compiling the Directory of Caribbean Mass Media, enhancing knowledge about regional media houses and their key figures. As a founding member of the Caribbean Association for Communication Research (CACR), he contributed to the advancement of communication studies in the Caribbean.
Remembered as a wise intellectual, Wenty Bowen’s legacy as an outstanding writer and analyst of Caribbean affairs continues to inspire future generations. His dedication to public service and the media industry marks him as a significant figure in the Caribbean narrative.
