Instead, he channeled his determination into a different path, securing a place among just 30 students out of 200 at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC).

When the media sensationalized the story of Lee Boyd Malvo, a suspect in the Beltway sniper attacks, he decided to delve into the story. After rejecting the prevailing narrative of Lee Boyd Malvo being a 'typical Jamaican bad boy,' Mr Hughes and his team dug deeper, revealing the heartbreaking truth: Malvo was a gifted youth battered by poor parenting. Their findings became a viral sensation, turning into the award-winning documentary 'The Potter and the Clay.' The poignant storytelling caught the attention of FOX News, leading to a collaboration that showcased the raw, unfiltered truth. This trailblazing work ultimately earned Mr Hughes an Emmy Award, challenging skeptics who believed such accolades could only be achieved on American soil.
