Marie Elizabeth Constantine, affectionately known as Mitsy Seaga, is a remarkable figure in Jamaica’s cultural and social landscape. Born in a family that instilled strong values, she faced the challenges of youth with resilience after losing her father at a tender age. Raised primarily by her devoted mother, she developed an inner strength and sense of purpose that would guide her throughout her life.

Her journey into the public eye began when she was crowned Miss Jamaica in 1964. Her poise, beauty, and deep-rooted commitment to social issues set her apart, making her not just a beauty queen but also a symbol of hope and change in a transforming Jamaica. The following year, her life took a significant turn when she married Edward Seaga, who later became the Prime Minister of Jamaica. Their marriage, spanning three decades, was a partnership infused with shared values, vision, and a commitment to serve the Jamaican people.


During a pivotal era marked by Jamaica's transition to independence, she emerged as a fervent advocate for social change. Her work during this period was characterized by a passionate dedication to volunteerism and social conscience. Understanding the plight of neglected and abandoned children, she played a crucial role in establishing the SOS Children's Village in Stony Hill. This landmark initiative provided loving, familial care to vulnerable children, shaping their futures and offering them a sense of belonging.

In addition to her work with abandoned children, she was instrumental in fostering vocational training in Jamaica. She founded the HEART School of Cosmetology, which empowered countless individuals by equipping them with skills in the beauty industry. This initiative not only provided economic opportunities but also instilled confidence and self-worth among the participants, reflecting her belief in the transformative power of education and hard work.


Before her philanthropic endeavours, she worked with the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC). Her passion for media allowed her to communicate her vision for a better Jamaica, connecting with audiences on deeper social conversations. She also had a brief stint in London, which broadened her horizons and added to her rich tapestry of experiences.

Known for her love of flowers and music, her personal interests mirror her vibrant spirit. Fluent in Spanish, she has a diverse appreciation for cultures, illustrated by her love for music and occasional charitable performances. Now remarried, Marie Elizabeth Main remains a beloved figure in Jamaica, revered not merely for her past as a beauty queen but for her unwavering commitment to creating a better society.
