A Cultural Ambassador Through Media and Community
In 1972, a meeting with Rupert Bent Sr. at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) changed the course of Lukkee Chong's life. Originally aspiring to be a radio DJ, he found his calling in television production, starting his career with laughter and a roll of the sleeves.
Mr. Chong quickly honed his skills at JBC, immersing himself in sound mixing, camera work, and lighting. In the early '90s, he made a bold move to launch Frame by Frame Productions Ltd. in partnership with cinematographer Max Earle. They produced commercials and travel shows, including Island Stylee, which showcased Jamaica’s vibrant culture for a global audience.
His career took a significant turn when he was introduced to BET Jazz CEO Paxton Baker shortly after the launch of Island Stylee. Engaged to produce television shows from festivals organised by Baker's team, Chong's work graced both the BET Jazz channel in Europe and Africa, and they produced three seasons of his concept Jazz in the Sun, featuring Caribbean musicians that merged music and culture beautifully.

After moving to South Florida in 2001, Chong embraced his Caribbean roots and passionately promoted cultural awareness among diverse communities. His collaborations with Jamaican icons, such as Oliver Samuels and Leonie Forbes, reflect his commitment to preserving the Caribbean heritage.
As the audio-visual producer for the Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, Mr. Chong tells authentic stories of Caribbean culture. His innovative projects—including an animated exploration of the Akan character Brother Anansi—seek to present cultural narratives in a positive light. Another exciting venture, 8 Bars of Soul, brings music from his generation to life with a full Black orchestra.
With a firm belief in the power of culture to shape identity, Chong aims to pass down traditions to younger generations while embracing his diverse ancestry with humour. In addition to his media work, since 2016, Chong has been involved in financial services, aiding clients in achieving their financial goals and reinforcing his commitment to community service.
