A Champion for Social Change Through Journalism
Dian Young-Rodney is an inspiring former Jamaican journalist and author dedicated to empowering children through her engaging stories. With a background as a reporter for the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, Dian Young was instrumental in creating a unique television series called "Ray of Hope." Alongside her colleague Carol Francis, she produced this uplifting segment, which continues to grace the airwaves as part of the prime-time news package even 24 years later!
As a freelance communication specialist, she devoted over seven years to working with elementary school children, nurturing their growth and creativity. Her passion for children’s well-being shines through in her storytelling, where she crafts narratives that not only entertain but also educate and inspire young readers.

One of her notable works, Russell the Kid Nobody Wants to Be Around, addresses the challenges faced by children with neurological disorders and highlights the important role of their supporters. In a testament to her commitment to giving back, Diane generously donated 17 copies of this book to the Jamaica Library Service in June 2022.
Diane’s work strives to break down barriers of understanding and acceptance while fostering empathy among children. By sharing the experiences of diverse characters, she encourages young readers to embrace differences, cultivate kindness, and support one another, thus creating a positive ripple effect in their communities.
