A Trailblazer in Jamaican Journalism and Media

Heather Campbell is a distinguished Producer/Editor whose career has significantly impacted the media landscape in Jamaica. With extensive experience in prominent media organizations, including the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) and later Television Jamaica (TVJ), and as a communications specialist in government entities, Campbell has demonstrated a commitment to quality journalism and public service.


Heather Campbell began her career at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation in 1993, where she served as a producer in the TV newsroom under the leadership of Cliff Hughes and then Editor, Gillian Haughton. Her production skills and keen news judgment contributed to the high-quality news content that informed and engaged Jamaican audiences.

After her tenure at JBC, Campbell made the transition, following the privatisation of the former government media house to Television Jamaica (TVJ), where she continued to excel as a Producer. Her work at TVJ further solidified her reputation as a leading figure in Jamaican journalism. She was instrumental in developing news programs that adhered to high standards of journalism, emphasizing accuracy and integrity.


In addition to her work in broadcasting, Campbell has collaborated with government agencies, contributing her expertise in communication and media relations. She worked at the Jamaica Information Service as a Television News Editor from 2001 to 2008, before transitioning into core government as a Public Relations Officer at the then Ministry of Water and Housing. She has remained in Public Relations in the Ministry responsible for those two critical portfolio areas, through its various incarnations (now the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation). Her involvement in these entities has allowed her to play a role in publicising the critical role of the Ministry in enhancing the quality of life for Jamaicans, as well as improving transparency in government communication.

Throughout her career, Campbell has been a mentor to many young journalists, sharing her knowledge and experience to help them navigate the complexities of the media industry.
