Iconic Radio Host and Advocate for Social Justice
Wilmot 'Motty' Perkins (1931-2012) was a legendary Jamaican radio personality and journalist. He began his radio career hosting the program ‘What's Your Grouse’ on RJR in 1960. He then took a break from the airwaves to pursue his love of the land and worked for years as a farmer.
He returned to radio in the 1970s, as host of Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation's (JBC) popular call-in program Public Eye. Renowned for his long tenure as the host of several talk shows, including 'Public Eye', 'Hot Line ', 'Straight Talk ', and 'Perkins On-Line'.

Mr. Perkins was known for his fearless and incisive commentary, often addressing controversial topics and advocating for human rights. The shows of this stalwart of Jamaican media were known for their spirited interactions and ability to engage listeners on a wide range of topics.
Mr. Perkins was also a fierce advocate for human rights and social justice. He was unafraid to challenge the establishment and often spoke out against government indiscretions and human rights violations. Despite facing numerous libel lawsuits, none of which were settled in court, Perkins remained steadfast in his commitment to free speech and justice.
