Growing up in a bustling household with nine siblings in the lively neighbourhoods of Greenwich and Whitfield Town along Spanish Town Road, Winston Barnes's early life was a whirlwind of familial bonds and shared experiences. Raised in a close-knit environment, he learned the importance of solidarity, creativity, and perseverance from a young age. The vibrant community surroundings enriched his upbringing, shaping him into a leader committed to uplifting others.


His educational journey took him to Kingston College, where he, alongside his brothers Jeff and Edward, began to explore the world of broadcast media. Although he was good at sports, it was in radio that he found his true passion—fostering communication and connection among listeners through engaging storytelling and discussions.

Winston Barnes's entry into broadcasting coincided with a pivotal era in Jamaican media, marked by the founding voices who laid the groundwork for the industry. Beginning his career at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) during the vibrant 1970s, he quickly established himself as a prominent personality within the sector. Following his successful tenure in Jamaica, Mr. Barnes brought his talents to the United States, where he hosted the engaging talk show "Open Mike" on WAVS 1170 AM Radio in South Florida.
