A Dynamic Force in Jamaican Media and Tourism

Marline Stephenson-Dalley’s name resonates like a vibrant melody across Jamaica, epitomising the spirit of resilience, creativity, and unyielding ambition. Originating from the sun-kissed shores of Montego Bay, St. James, her journey began at Mount Alvernia High School, where the seeds of her aspiration were first sown.

Initially envisioning a career in law, Marline’s path took a dramatic turn as she embraced the world of radio broadcasting at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), located at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus. This pivotal decision would not only redefine her future but also leave an indelible mark on Jamaica’s media landscape.

After graduating in 1986, Marline stepped assertively into the broadcasting arena, launching her career as a fresh and fearless voice at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC). She began at one of its satellite stations, Radio West, where her exceptional talent was recognised, leading to her appointment as the Acting Station Manager. After this milestone, she was recruited by JBC Radio 1 on South Odeon Avenue in Kingston. It was here that she would truly shine and captivate a larger audience with her show 'Marline in the Mornings.'

Marline’s remarkable talents were further recognised at JBC when she was awarded the Fanfare International Award for her innovative approach to instructional Spanish on radio. Seeking constant growth, she also earned a diploma in Public Relations with distinction from the Jamaican Institute of Management, showcasing her commitment to self-improvement and excellence.

However, Marline's journey was not without challenges. Balancing the demands of family life as a new mother and wife with a burgeoning career in Kingston tested her resolve. Yet, she met these challenges head-on, demonstrating exceptional adaptability and determination. One of her most significant contributions to Jamaican broadcasting was her co-hosting of "Daybreak Jamaica" with Tony Young, the first program to seamlessly link the bustling cities of Montego Bay and Kingston through JBC's innovative microwave facility.

Marline delivered a heartfelt farewell to Jamaica, alongside her colleague Gladstone Wilson, when the station closed its doors in 1997. Following the closure of JBC, Marline transitioned effortlessly to HOT 102, where she continued to engage and inspire listeners as a Producer Presenter on 'Vibes Connection' and 'Sunday Oldies with Marline.' Her magnetic presence and engaging style allowed her to maintain a loyal audience while further honing her broadcasting skills.

Driven by a desire to broaden her horizons, Marline pursued an MBA in Marketing from the University of Technology, Jamaica, graduating in 2009. This academic pursuit ignited her passion for the tourism sector, where she took on the role of Coordinator for Spruce Up Jamaica. She emerged as a steadfast advocate for excellence in the hospitality industry, championing the principles of professionalism, consistency, and cultural sensitivity as essential components of superior service. Her unwavering commitment to enhancing the tourist experience reflects her dedication to building an exceptional tourism brand for Jamaica.

Currently, Marline serves as the Coordinator of Corporate Communications & Community Awareness at the Tourism Product Development Company Ltd., where she remains an influential force in showcasing Jamaica’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Marline's talents extend far beyond radio and tourism; she has also made her mark on television as a quiz master for 'Schools Challenge Quiz', the longest-running quiz show in the English-speaking Caribbean. Her dynamic presence on this platform underscores her deep commitment to education and community engagement.

Moreover, Marline is the proud author of Dog Tales, a heartwarming children's book that captures the essence of pet ownership through the eyes of a young boy named Peter. Through this captivating narrative, she imparts vital lessons about responsibility, care, and the joys of companionship, nurturing a love for animals among young readers and enriching their emotional landscapes.

Marline Stephenson Dalley's remarkable journey—from a budding radio host to a multifaceted media and tourism expert—serves as a beacon of inspiration. Her unwavering resolve and ability to seize life's opportunities have not only shaped her destiny but also profoundly impacted the lives of countless Jamaicans. As she continues to shine in her various roles, Marline stands as a testament to the power of determination and the transformative influence one individual can have on a community.
