A Pioneer in Jamaican Media and Publishing

Glynis Salmon is a distinguished Jamaican media professional and author, celebrated for her notable contributions to communications and publishing. Her career has been marked by extensive work in various media roles, most notably at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC), where she made significant strides.

From 1981 to 1986, Ms. Salmon played a pivotal role as one of the pioneering producers/presenters for JBC Radio North East (RNE). The station commenced program production in 1981 and began broadcasting in 1982, providing coverage for Portland, St. Mary, and St. Ann. RNE also served as a vital source of content for national news, programs, and features. 


The dynamic team at RNE included:

  • Lucella Blanchard (Station Manager)      

  • Tony Young (Operator)

  • Franklene Frater (Production Assistant)

  • Glynis Salmon (Producer/Presenter)

  • Clyde McKenzie (Producer/Presenter)      

  • Judith McClaughlin (Operator)

Ms Salmon later took on the role of Marketing Manager at Carlong Publishers, where she played an instrumental role in developing culturally relevant reading materials for children. A notable achievement during her tenure was the creation of the Sand Pebbles Pleasure Series, a collection aimed at engaging young readers through stories that reflect the Caribbean experience.


Through her work, Glynis Salmon has not only left an indelible mark on Jamaican media but has also significantly contributed to the enrichment of children's literature in the Caribbean.
