From Media to Ministry: The Inspiring Journey of Damien Phillips

In the vibrant heart of St. Andrew, Damien Phillips grew up with aspirations that extended far beyond the skyline. Damien, the son of a garage owner, honed his mechanical skills alongside his father, instilling in him a strong work ethic, discipline, and a deep sense of community.

After graduating from Ardenne High School, his journey took a pivotal turn in 1996 when he was placed at Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) through the National Youth Service (NYS). This opportunity marked the beginning of his professional career and set the stage for a transformative journey into church ministry.

Early Career at JBC

The NYS played an instrumental role in shaping the lives of young individuals like Damien, providing essential life skills for personal and professional growth. He credits his mother’s unwavering prayers for the divine opportunity that led him to JBC, where he began as a production assistant for JBC Radio. This position would serve as a launchpad for his remarkable career in media. During his tenure at JBC, Damien rapidly advanced, moving to JBC TV, where he further developed his skills as a Production Assistant. His enthusiasm and dedication did not go unnoticed. After JBC's closure, he made a seamless transition to Television Jamaica (TVJ), where he climbed the ranks to become a producer and reporter.

Transition to LOVE 101FM and CVM TV

Driven by a calling toward ministry, Damien made the pivotal decision to leave TVJ and join the religious station LOVE 101FM, initially working in the sports department. As he prepared for his ministry, he began reporting news, a role that blended well with his aspirations. Eventually, he left LOVE 101FM to pursue a business venture with a friend. In 2007, he was recruited by CVM TV as a reporter and producer, re-entering the media landscape. Simultaneously, he contributed to HOT 102 FM, the radio arm of CVM TV, showcasing his versatility and passion for storytelling.

His experiences in storytelling and audience engagement provided a solid foundation for his current role in church ministry, where he inspires and uplifts those in need. Damien is committed to giving back and offering motivational insights to individuals grappling with their own challenges.
